Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Pocahontas
Pocahontas

Hi Kathy, I apologize for taking so long to respond to your e-mail. I was out of the country from the 23rd of December until the 4th of January and I'm just now catching up on everything. Your Pocahontas is our "Charlie". She is doing great! The entire family loves her and everyone that sees her wants her. Charlie is 15 weeks now and weighs about 13 lbs. She is very loving and playful, but one tough cookie. At times she's a little skittish and shy, but she is very protective of all of us. Last week we started puppy training classes and she's doing well. She responds to her name, can sit, is still learning the "down" command, and in general is very obedient. We are still trying to have her like the crate. I am using different methods for her to learn that it's a safe place for her to be in. I am pretty sure she will end up liking it soon. We are very happy with our Charlie and so glad we could give her a home where she is loved and cared for. She is a wonderful addition to our family of six - Mom, Dad, Meagan (17), Alexa (13), and the twins, Katharina (3), and Lucas (3). Thank you for the wonderful work you do. It can only be done by kind, loving, and caring individuals like you and everyone at A Second Chance Rescue. I have attached a photo taken three weeks ago. I will send another one soon and keep you updated. Best wishes in the New Year, Lili Jochem

Sheli

Hi Kathy,

Happy New Year!

Thank you, we are loving Sheli. My husband and I relocated to NC. Sheli has adjusted to her 1/4 acre fenced in yard and her neighbors.

Clover
Clover

Hi! The holidays were hectic, esp. with a new "baby" in the house, but I have to tell you that we are in love with Clover and hope she feels the same way about us ( I think she does). She is a beautiful girl. Her jet black coat is beginning to show signs of freckles and patterning. Her weight has doubled and she is showing some shapely long legs. She has visited the veterinarian 2x and was able to meet her mom (!), Macey at one of the appointments. She adapted well to her crate/home and to our older catahoula. They are pretty good buddies now, except when food is concerned :), then Ali can be a little cranky. They play "catahoula games" and it's been great to see our older dog back in action keeping up with Clover. Clover also enjoys-- LOVES--running through her tunnel, and over it! And toys! Lots of toys! House-training has been successful for the most part. Clover rings a bell to go out when she feels the "urge," and has been pretty consistent. Her vocabulary is growing: she understands "sit," "down," "speak," "crate," "leave it," "drop it," "paw," (and "other paw,") and "come!" Her appetite and her energy level are always in high gear, and she often reminds me of the cartoon character, "Tasmanian Devil," because she is always in motion, in mischief, or in the middle of some predicament! I had forgotten how much work it is to have a puppy in the house. But, just last night (!) she realized that she had grown just enough to climb onto the sofa, cuddle with me, and fall asleep in my lap. Ahh, the sweet smell of puppy/love. Thank you, A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens, and your veterinarians and volunteers who make it possible for these puppies and their moms to live-- safe, valued and loved; and for giving to us, the adoptive parents, a million smiles and out-loud laughs that would never have been if not for these loving and loveable clowns.

Goober
Goober

Dear Second Chance Rescue, My name was Goober but my family changed it to Beau(French for handsome and short for T-Beau) on December 3rd 2011. I am so happy here in my new home. I have a kitty brother named Gator who likes to play with me every morning. Every night I sleep with my 17 year old boy in his room and I whimper when I need to go outside. Sometimes I cry in my sleep but my 11 year girl tells me it's probably because I miss my mommy Gypsy. I am not sad for long because I know she is in good hands with her foster family. Thank you Second Chance for giving me my forever home. Love, Beau Goober was adopted on December 3rd and we were told that his chip was accidentally switched with Gatsby's. Gatsby's picture is definitely our puppy Beau. I'm sending am updated picture. Beau is doing so well. He is a fast learner. He already has three tricks to perform ; Sit, stay and the best trick, "give me your foot". He is a very easy going puppy but he loves to play. He thoroughly enjoyed riding in the car to look at Christmas lights in Jupiter. Dr. Fox says he's doing fine. He weighed 16 pounds on December 27th. We are looking forward to many happy years with Beau in our lives. Thank you for providing such a wonderful opportunity. Sincerely, The Moss family
